The BMC will throw open the doors to Knox United Church Hall at 6:20 PM and welcome the ladies of the community to the inner sanctum. What lies ahead typically is a terrific meal prepared and served by the men, a very brief business meeting, some entertainment that hopefully will please the assembled masses, door prizes, and the evening culminates with the presentation of the annual Eagle Award to one of our community’s outstanding citizens. The event draws about 125 of the fairer sex – make plans now to include yourself in that number – history would suggest you will definitely enjoy yourself. Shortly after the Vernal Equinox, the Brookfield Fire and Emergency Services personnel are often busy battling grass fires; however this year we have been much less fortunate. Darlene Tothill and her son Matthew had their house on John Bell Road destroyed by fire. The Red Cross, several businesses, and the community at large have been very helpful to Darlene and Matt with their immediate needs. The house belonging to Glenda (Harvey) Works adjacent to the Baptist Church also suffered significant damage in a fire. Firefighters were professional in their actions and well turned out with equipment; let’s hope we don’t have to see them use it again for quite some time. The list of obituaries this month is far longer than we would like. Heartfelt condolences go to the family and friends of the following; Irma Leslie, sister of Freda Brenton, and familiar face from frequent visits to the village, passed away in Halifax.
