KANSAS-FAMILY SLAIN

LYNDON, Kan. - A former Missouri city official goes on trial Monday in northeast Kansas on charges that he fatally shot his estranged wife and three other family members, and jurors could hear evidence about how his wife's alleged relationship with another woman may have affected his mental state. James Kraig Kahler, 48, is accused of the slayings, and his trial in Osage County District Court could last three weeks or longer. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty in connection with the killings, which occurred during the weekend after Thanksgiving 2009 just outside Burlingame, about 20 miles south of Topeka, in the home of his estranged wife's grandmother.
