KANSAS-FAMILY SLAIN
LYNDON, Kan. - A former Missouri city official goes on trial Monday in northeast Kansas on charges that he fatally shot his estranged wife and three other family members, and jurors could hear evidence about how his wife's alleged relationship with another woman may have affected his mental state. James Kraig Kahler, 48, is accused of the slayings, and his trial in Osage County District Court could last three weeks or longer. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty in connection with the killings, which occurred during the weekend after Thanksgiving 2009 just outside Burlingame, about 20 miles south of Topeka, in the home of his estranged wife's grandmother. Greyhound is interviewing the driver and passengers who were aboard a St. Louis-bound bus that flipped over on the Pennsylvania Turnpike over the weekend, injuring 14 people. The crash happened around 6 am Saturday near the Lebanon-Lancaster exit,
Richmond had earlier said 29 people were on the bus, but said Sunday she could not confirm the presence of the driver and 18 passengers, 14 who were treated in different hospitals and released and four people who have taken their free trip another vehicle. A spokesman for Turnpike had said Saturday that the total could be 25 because of the duplicates on the manifest of the driver.
