The first thing i would do is to check the owners manual,,,then i would call the dealer and see what they suggest.

There are 3 foreseeable problems:

1. What ever traction device you choose ,,be it chains or cables,,they need to fit inside of the wheel wells without hitting or rubbing anything while they are mounted on each wheel.

2. Are your tires designed for the snow or are they the type of tires that are best suited for wet and dry pavement only ?

3. Have you ever driven in snow before ? If not, you might want to go with some one who
has first,,,,that way they can train you how to drive on a snowy surface,,this may keep you from banging up your new car.

Also, when you do get the chains or cables, you will want to practice putting them on the car at your house where it is,, warm ,,,and you have the,, time,, to learn how to do it correctly.

MINIs (according to the manual) can only take chains on the standard 15" (x 5.5") wheels (already using non Run-Flat tires, or accessory 16" x 5.5" wheels - which you'd know if you bought because they're not even a factory option.)

If your Cooper has standard 15" wheels, make sure you get chains that fit your tire size (175/65 R 15) Before you buy, I would first call your local dealership's parts department and see if they have ones that will fit. MINI has tested certain brands, and the parts department should have a bulletin of tested brands if not the chains themselves.
If you have 16" or larger factory (optional) wheels, you will not be able to use chains at all.
