PASS CHRISTIAN -- Longtime pharmacist Hugh Warren “Griff” Griffon lived a life that showed the importance of marriage, family and community, relatives said.
He helped raise 10 children and operated a pharmacy with his wife for nearly 50 years, working seven days a week for many of those years. He also found time to help build a community baseball field, sponsor and coach Little League baseball teams, help coach basketball and to support church activities.
“Most people in town today were coached by him at one time or another,” said Mary Griffon Townsend, a daughter.
Griffon, 91, died Sunday of congestive heart failure. Survivors include nine children, some of whom spent time together Tuesday reminiscing about their father’s generosity, wisdom and work ethic.
“His best advice was for married couples,” Townsend said. “He would say, ‘You have to wake up every day and decide to fall in love again with that person.’”
Griffon, from Plaquemine, La., moved to Pass Christian in the early 1940s because his wife wanted to be near family. He and the former Catherine Chadwick, from Waveland, had met at Loyola University School of Pharmacy in New Orleans.
The couple set up shop across from the Lazar family pharmacy, and later bought their business, operated in a brick building near the Avalon Theater on East Scenic Drive.
“You could get everything from shoe strings to guitar strings,” Townsend said. “It even had a soda fountain in the earlier years. We children began working there as soon as we were tall enough to reach the cash register. We delivered prescriptions, too.”
Griff and Catherine Griffon ran the pharmacy from 1946 until 1991. Catherine died in 2002.
His children said they will remember him as a hugger and for his charming personality, church and community activities and his knack for being a good storyteller.
Because we'd seen other stars from Britain come to America and just fade into the general scene, because they would often be like a male star and you'd have Elvis and you'd have plenty of sort of minor male stars like Frankie Avalon and people like

How soon could it happen? Guy LeBas, chief bond strategist at Janney Montgomery Scott, says it could be as early as next month. Avalon Partners chief economist Peter Cardillo believes there's a 70 percent chance of a downgrade in the next six months.

I adore anything Arthurian and when I saw these cards they called to me very loudly. I have a few decks of Oracle cards but these are the ones that I use for my daily draw (when I remember). The imagery is very 'simple' at first glance there isn't a lot going on - but for me that makes them a truly intuitive pack - there are key words on each card - so you don't 'have' to consult the book for each card - the keyword says it all ..... or the image! First I'll talk about the book .......... I find the way it's written very clear and easy to understand, the cards are numbered which means you aren't hunting in the index to find the right page .... I like simple the one thing that I do have a slight issue with is there are no reverse meanings given - so it would appear on the 'outside' to be a very 'light' deck and as we know each emotion has it's dark equivilent - but that's my own personal grumble. Now on to the cards ..... these are split into groups - The Messengers of Avalon, The Animal Guides of Avalon, The Guides of Faery and then The Sacred Journey Markers - as I mentioned earlier - each 'major' card has the keywords written on them (Dog ~ Loyalty, Sincerity, Unconditional Love) but unlike other Oracle cards - this deck is different in that it has the Sacred Markers - all the artwork on these 21 cards shows a Path - the path could be through a forest, up a hill, or something - but there is no pre-conceived imagery and there are no 'keywords' on the Sacred Markers - so when you (well when I) draw one of these cards I find I use my intuition more than being 'told' what the card means - however, in saying that - don't let me put you off - the Sacred Markers are called Joy, Re-Birth etc. When the Hawk appears, expect a message to be delivered to you to aid you in your quest. Perhaps a telephone call from a friend will help you solve a mystery, or a chance meeting with someone may solve a riddle.
