Award offered for information on mutilation of cat in Choctaw

Rescuers are calling him Deuce, pointing out the obvious — he's now a cat with two legs. To their amazement, he's learning to walk again.

“He's starting to learn to balance on the front two,” veterinarian Beth Ruby said. “He's just a miracle.”

Deuce dragged himself to a playground at a mobile home park Monday in Choctaw and was taken to the park's office by two children.

The cat's cuts were clean, leading investigators to think Deuce's injuries were inflicted, according to an Oklahoma County Sheriff's Department report.The Humane Society of the United States offers $ 2,500 for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible.

Ruby said it is likely that no one intentionally hurt the cat, the animal can be obtained as a tractor or other piece of farm equipment.

The cat was taken to the veterinary clinic of Quail Creek by the Humane Society of Central Oklahoma.

Ruby said the cat's legs were severed at the knees, and tail mid-length. Injuries seem to be 4 to 6 weeks, one leg was already healing. They're working to heal the other limb, and were considering a plan for prosthetics. That may not be necessary now that it seems Deuce is adapting to his injury, she said.

Ruby said part of the challenge will be keeping Deuce off his hind stubs so the skin will heal and stay healed.

Humane Society President Christy Counts said the black and white tuxedo cat is friendly and craves affection.
